I’m Jade
This is where I share my global travels, local hikes, and year-round activities that bring me joy in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Wayfinding is the art and science of indigenous Polynesian navigation. It has personal significance to me, as I lived on the Big Island of Hawaii for half a year and feel very close to their culture. If I may abstract the historical definition, someone who can “find the way” suggests a deeper wisdom for how the world works, or at least a desire to follow their inner compass and map out their own path in life. I want to explore every single day. The restaurants near my house, the events in my city, the boundless nature in my backyard, the roads over the horizon and the people I’ve yet to meet.

This blog began as motivation to go through the ridiculous amount of unseen photos on my DSLR and mirrorless cameras from 2009-2023, primarily from traveling and hiking. If I can unearth these stories for others then maybe I can justify this photography hobby.
I also want/need to get back into writing creatively. Can you believe that English was once my best subject? That I considered pursuing photojournalism or being a film critic? Now it takes me an hour to compose a perfectly professional email. Thanks corporate culture and engineering school!
My friends have also been urging me to do this for ages. They’re probably mad I never sent that nice picture of them I took 5 years ago on that random adventure.

Mostly travel-related posts to summarize each of my trips. For budget-conscious travelers wanting to visit similar places, I will also break down the final costs to show how you don’t need a lot of money to travel.
Inspired by the pandemic lockdowns, I want to share my philosophy of always living-like-you’re-traveling. All of the best recommendations to make the most of life in Calgary year-round: food, hikes, camping, skiing, festivals, urban gems - I'm your gal. Calgary is more than just a gateway to Banff.
Backcountry trails will feature prominently as that was my proxy for travel in pandemic-times.
